This time I took a record with mantra's as source material for both the audio and the seeve. Very zen. The recordings were made using an amplified knife (mes, in dutch), playing and cutting a record at the same time.

Jeroen Diepenmaat is a Dutch visual artist with a predilection for sound. In his work, consisting of drawings, sculptures, installations and performances, he explores the cutting edge between image and sound and the transition from one to the other.

Thus Jeroen Diepenmaat physically sculpts a live soundscape with a gradual accumulation of subtle pops, clicks, hiss and noise, occasionally using additional sounds from pre-recorded vinyl. The result is extremely meditative, ingenious and beautiful.

The knife makes a loop on the record, so the groove gets worn more and more, until the original sound is not recognizable anymore or the knife jumps out the groove.
